Kirkuk Field
Discovered 1927, onshore Iraq, the field that opened Middle East oil.
Overview
The Baba Gurgur well blew in with a famous gusher in 1927, forcing theIPC era pipeline to the Mediterranean. Kirkuk built the modern Iraqi state budget. Disputed between Baghdad and Erbil after 2014, it still flows substantial volumes. Reservoir management problems include early overproduction and water encroachment.
