Kashagan Field
Discovered 2000, Caspian Sea, 13 billion barrels in place.
Overview
The largest oil discovery since Prudhoe Bay, Kashagan sits in shallow, ice prone, sour conditions. Production started 2013, stopped, restarted, and finally ramped with dedicated processing islands. Costs multiplied past original plans many times over.
