Hibernia Field
Discovered 1979, offshore Newfoundland, first oil in 1997.
Overview
Hibernia lies on the Grand Banks in about 80 m of water, where icebergs drift south each spring. Production comes from a massive concrete gravity base structure built to withstand an iceberg strike. It launched the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore industry.
