Discovered 1932, beneath Long Beach harbor, California, over 2.5 billion barrels in place.

Overview

Wilmington production caused dramatic land subsidence in Long Beach until water injection arrested it from 1958. The THUMS islands, disguised as tropical landscaping, hide offshore wells. The field remains a landmark of urban oil engineering.
