Piltun-Astokhskoye Field
Discovered 1986, offshore Sakhalin, the oil core of the Sakhalin-2 project.
Overview
The field lies off the northeast coast of Sakhalin Island in waters choked by sea ice for half the year. Production began in 1999 from the Molikpaq platform, and later platforms allowed year round output via pipelines south to Prigorodnoye. Shell exited the project in 2022.
