Orinoco Belt
Known since the 1930s, onshore Venezuela, roughly 300 billion barrels of extra heavy oil.
Overview
The Faja del Orinoco holds the largest hydrocarbon accumulation on the planet by resource volume. Upgraders and dilution turn bitumen into syncrude for export. Sanctions and investment flight slashed production after 2019. Boyaca, Junin, Ayacucho and Carabobo are its main blocks.
